General Chat Room / Re: Engine rebuild

Quote from: Fx4Ranger on January 06, 2025, 10:54:08 AMCheers, engine needs complete rebuilding. Will look at both options.

If engine needs full rebuild and you are not fussy about originality, probably a new or reconditioned crate engine is a cheaper option.
With a crate engine you need to check if it has the same bolt pattern of the transmission, otherwise it won't fit.

Thanks. I should have clarified the whole engine is a roller 5.0 with the standard heads it came with. Just wanted to check if original 289 (gold) rocker covers would fit on these heads?

I think the 'walls' where the rocker covers sit are too low to clear factory covers with rollers on a factory head. Aftermarket heads have a higher wall (my Dart head do, and I have early rocker covers on them OK)
You can get spacers that sit the covers higher. Pretty sure Rocket have them over here.

Quote from: RocketScientist on December 24, 2024, 03:52:32 PMYep, the idler arm should be parallel to the frame and I have a 67 that is the same. I have FPA extractors and it just clears them, so there is not much free room to move.

I live in Perth and it's so hard to find an old-school shop that knows how to set up old cars - they're a dying breed.
Brad

Thanks. I have FPA extractors as well. I'll check the straight ahead position to see whats doing under there.

Tech Torque Pre 1973 / Rocker covers on roller Windso...
Last post by 1965 fastback - January 02, 2025, 05:32:28 PM
Hi,

I've installed a 90s Windsor in a 65 Mustang but would like to use original 65 era gold rocker covers. I read somewhere there might be clearance issues with the roller heads. Does anyone here on the forum know or tried this?
Thanks
Tony

The idler arm must be parallel with the pitman arm otherwise your steering geometry will be up the creek

Mustang Chat Room / Re: Import approval
Last post by fredm666 - January 01, 2025, 05:59:16 PM
Quote from: 66dreama on December 17, 2024, 09:22:25 PMHi all after some advice please
I looked at a mustang for sale today
It's been in the country for a long time but never been registered
The car is a 65 c code however both the import approval and the stamped vin on the inner fenders have the fifth digit as 0 instead of a C
So when reading the vin it reads
5F080– -
My question is if the import approval and vin match will the incorrect number stamping  cause an issue
My only reckoning is fenders were stamped incorrectly in the factory then approval was issued for said vin ( is this possible )
The current owner has no clue why and states he purchased it as is in Australia from the original importer
Hoping someone can shed some light
Thanks
Paul

Hi,
are the VIN under the hood and the VIN on driver's side door matching?
1964 Mustangs have '5' as first digit in the VIN, and there are no 'C' code engines in 1964, only D/F/K/U.
As Clubman7 said, are you sure it's not an oddly stamped 'D'?

Cars For Sale By Private Sellers / Mustang business for sale
Last post by fredm666 - January 01, 2025, 04:02:27 PM
G'day all and Happy New Year.

I'm writing in this section because what I'm selling contains a Mustang.
More than two years ago in Perth I started a side business of car hire for weddings and other events, using predominantly my 1964 Mustang.
For personal reasons I have to sell the business and the sale includes the Mustang, website, social media; here the ad on Seek Business: https://www.seekbusiness.com.au/business-listing/view/722925
At this stage I'm not selling the Mustang separate from the business.
What I sell separately is the second car I bought for the business in January 2023, it's a 1955 Ford Customline (aussie car) and here the carsales ad: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1955-ford-customline-manual/SSE-AD-18295790/
Cars professionally maintained, fully registered and annually inspected to keep the small charter vehicle permit active.
Main reason for selling is because of family relocation over east (at the end it didn't happen 3yrs ago and it was not supposed to happen now) and there I have no room for extra cars.

Please let me know if someone is interested or if you know someone who might be.

thanks
Fred
